Education and follow-up

At the end of each semester, we welcome parents for individual meetings during which the educators present to the parents the child’s individual follow-up booklet in order to assess their development and share their progress.

We also want the children to present the pedagogical material, which is essential to the method, to their parents. To do so, each year, we invite the parents for a half day, during which the child, under the supervision of their educator, manipulates the Montessori material in front of their parents.

The school should also be a place of exploration :

In order to respect each child’s pace, those who wish to do so, can go outside with an educator to explore outside activities (games aimed at developing their social skills, their ability to care for an animal – with the parents’ contribution during school breaks-, gardening, discovering the outside world etc.).

In primary school, discovering the outside world is also done through outings that allow each child to go explore the world in the broadest sense. Guided and accompanied by adults who supervise them, small groups of children organize their own cultural outings according to chosen themes.

The school’s Rules and Regulations document is handed to the parents at the beginning of each school year and will remain available in our establishment.

Classroom Outings and Field Trips

At the beginning of the school year, we will inform you of our intentions for class trips for the 3 to 6 year olds and the 6 to 12 year olds. Géraldine, our administrative manager, along with the pedagogical team, organizes and coordinates these outings and remains open to parents’ suggestions.

Our Parents’ Association : Little Sourient participates in the reflection for ideas and especially in the organization of various activities with the pedagogical team.

From the age of 3, children have 1 hour of sport with a certified teacher, a yoga workshop and a theatre workshop per week.

Primary or Elementary school (in our pedagogy)

It responds to the child’s need: “Help me to think for myself”.

From 6 to 12 years old, each child is an explorer of ideas as well as facts. It is a period of great stability, calm and serenity. A new personality emerges as well as a physical and mental change. The child asserts himself. He can assimilate a very large volume of knowledge, rich and varied, if given the opportunity.

The child has new powers : an ability for abstraction, reasoning, imagination and begins to seek to assert his or her intellectual independence. He is a cultural explorer.

In the continuation of what has been done in the 3 to 6 years old class, we introduce main themes which respond to young children’s aspirations. We introduce men and women who have influenced the development of humanity in order to respond to his need to identify himself with extraordinary people.  In this way, the child discovers the different actors of life.

The child learns to manage working in a group so that everyone finds their place and accepts the other’s place at the same time. We also introduce the question of justice because his ability to judge is starting to form.

Education is based on 5 main lessons presenting the child with a global and coherent vision of the universe, civilizations, discoveries and inventions of men (cosmic education) :

  • the creation of the universe and our planet
  • the evolution of life on earth
  • the appearance of man on earth and his evolution
  • the invention and evolution of communication systems and their symbols
  • the evolution of the scientific mind of the human being through the history of numbers and mathematics.
