Education and follow-up

At the end of each trimester, we organize individual meetings during which educators present to parents the individual progress sheet of their child in order to assess their development and share their progress.

We also want children to present to their parents the pedagogical material, which is essential to the method. To do so, each year, we organize a meeting during which the child, under the supervision of their educator, manipulates the Montessori material in front of his parents.

The school should also be a place of exploration:

In order to respect each child’s pace, those who wish to do so, can go outside and explore outside activities (games aimed at developing their social skills, their ability to care for an animal – with the parents’ contribution during school breaks-, gardening, discovering the outside world.).

In primary school, discovering the outside world is also done through outings that allow each child to go explore the world. Guided and accompanied by adults who supervise them, small groups of children organize their own cultural outings according to chosen themes.

A rulebook will be handed to parents at the start of school and will remain available in our establishment.

Activities

At the beginning of the school year, we will inform you of class trips for the 3 to 6 year olds and the 6 to 9 year olds. Marie-Laure, our administrative manager, organizes and coordinates these outings and will be open to parents’ suggestions.

A parent association is being put together in order to share issues and ideas on school activities.

Some parents have expressed their wish to lead workshops (yoga, etc…). We are happy about this contribution and proudly accept it.

Regular physical activities already exist (Capoera and yoga) and we are glad to accept parent suggestions.

We are also considering a partnership with the municipality and local associations around theater, music and arts.

Primary or elementary school (pedagogy)

It meets the child’s needs: “Help me think for myself”

From 6 to 12 years old, each child is an explorer of ideas and facts. It is a period of great stability, calm and serenity. A new personality emerges and we can note physical and mental changes. The child asserts himself. He is capable of learning many important and different things if the opportunity presents itself.

The child has new capacities: an ability for abstraction, reasoning, imagination and tries to assert his intellectual independence.

In the continuity of what has been done with the 3 to 6 year olds, we introduce main themes which respond to young children’s aspirations. We introduce men and women who have influenced the development of humanity in order to respond to his need to identify himself with extraordinary people. Therefore, the child discovers different players in life.

The child learns to manage to work in groups so that each person can find his place and accept the other’s place. We also introduce the question of justice because his ability to judge is starting to form.

Education is focused around 5 main lessons presenting the child with a global and coherent vision of the universe, civilizations, discoveries and man made inventions (cosmic education):

  • the creation of the universe and our planet;

  • the evolution of life on Earth;

  • the appearance of mankind on Earth and his evolution;

  • the invention and evolution of communication systems and their symbols;

  • the evolution of science told through the story of numbers and math.
